When I lived in San Francisco, one of my favorite outdoor getaway destinations was the Snow Mountain Wilderness within the Mendocino National Forest (my other favorite was Lassen National Park). Snow Mountain is aptly named, as its a mountain, and its covered by snow year-round. My friend Tod and I hiked to this same spot a few times. The first time it snowed about a foot overnight despite being late Spring. The second time was amazingly clear, though the winds topped nearly 100 MPH that night. ...
