We just got back from a week-long visit to the French Caribbean island of Saint Barthelemy. Although I traveled with my big camera, I only took about a dozen photos. I'll share some of those shortly, but frankly you're better off reading my Instagram feed (instagram.com/kriskoeller) if you're curious about the trip. This post has one photo.

We were in Paris for a few days just before Christmas last year. We expected the city to be a riot of holiday cheers, but were somewhat disappointed. We still managed to do a fair amount of walking, eating and shopping, so not a total loss. It was still Paris, though. Beautiful anytime of the year. This post has 8 photos.

On an FX camera, you don't get the extreme enlargement of a DX, but at 300mm its plenty of zoom. This post has three photos.

Hong Kong's Victoria Harbor has recently been host to artist Florentijn Hofman's aptly-titled floating art exhibit, "Rubber Duck." The 16.5-meter high inflatable bath toy has been on exhibition since May 2, and famously deflated a few weeks ago after being buffeted about in late-spring storm. Today the duck is moored to the harbor on the Kowloon side, but still a big draw against its highly photogenic background. I had to fight quite the crowds, including many small children, to get this photo.

I'm still going through a bunch of post-blizzard photos from last week's snow storm. Bryan Jones commented that he could never tire of photographing the Flatiron Building, and apparently I agree as I have dozens of photos of that landmark in this set alone. Aside from the Empire State Building, its easily the most notable landmark in my neighborhood, and highly photogenic as well. This photo was taken right as the skies cleared but before all the snow started melting. The LED Bucky Ball art installation can be seen in the foreground, although its much more interesting at night. This post has one photo.

The much-hyped Blizzard of 2013 arrived yesterday and blanketed the city with about a foot of snow (neighbors to the north and across New England got 30 inches or more). By 11AM on Saturday, the snow had stopped and the sun had re-appeared. It was still cold and gusty, but the snow was already during into an inconvenient mush, and much of the trees and surrounding buildings had started to thaw. I walked over to Madison Square Park to snap a few photos, and found the park full of kids, dogs and photographers. This post has two photos.

It's been cold and wintry in New York of late. Not unusually so, but once the holidays have past it seems colder, drearier, and the winds don't stop. I went to the roof to look around and took this photo looking northwest toward Hell's Kitchen. Its a fine photo, but one I've taken many times before. In fact, I've decided to "retire" this view as I'm afraid it has become a cliche. Call it a New Year's resolution, starting after this one. This post has one photo.

We had a 2:50PM flight out of Newark today, a second attempt after our Christmas flight to Kansas City was canceled on December 21 (you don't have a lot of options when that happens). Because of a pending snowstorm, I changed our flight to 9AM in hopes of departing before the storm. We barely made the flight due to unbelievably long security line, but rolled out around 9:15. By 9:30 we were back at the gate due to a maintenance issue, and by 10:30 this flight was canceled. We quickly rebooked to our original 2:50 flight, but with snow coming down harder and harder, its anyone's guess. This post has one photo.

Before we were sidetracked by Hurricane Sandy and related posts, last weekend we had tickets to an incredible art installation by Japanese artist Tatzu Nishi. Titled, "Discovering Columbus", Nishi constructed a living room around the Christopher Columbus statue atop a monument six stories above Columbus Circle near Central Park South and Broadway. The effect of the installation is for the statue of Columbus to appear as a work of art in someone's living room. You simply have to see it. This post has 6 photos. Hurricane Sandy, New York City

Hurricane Sandy came through New York last night, and the damage was far worse than expected. Most of New York City is without power, and the flooding in Lower Manhattan and the Lower East Side is unprecedented. Winds and rains were less severe than forecasted, but it could 4-5 days until power is restored, and a week or more until the subways are running again. We were fortunate to not lose power, one of only a handful of buildings south of 39th street. We are extraordinarily lucky that for us, the storm was not more than an inconvenience, but for many friends there will be challenging days ahead. This post has one photo.
