A Cold, Dreary January Afternoon in New York City

Photography
It's been cold and wintry in New York of late. Not unusually so, but once the holidays have past it seems colder, drearier, and the winds don't stop. I went to the roof to look around and took this photo looking northwest toward Hell's Kitchen. Its a fine photo, but one I've taken many times before. In fact, I've decided to "retire" this view as I'm afraid it has become a cliche. Call it a New Year's resolution, starting after this one. This post has one photo.

It's a Snowy Day at Newark Airport

US Travel
We had a 2:50PM flight out of Newark today, a second attempt after our Christmas flight to Kansas City was canceled on December 21 (you don't have a lot of options when that happens). Because of a pending snowstorm, I changed our flight to 9AM in hopes of departing before the storm. We barely made the flight due to unbelievably long security line, but rolled out around 9:15. By 9:30 we were back at the gate due to a maintenance issue, and by 10:30 this flight was canceled. We quickly rebooked to our original 2:50 flight, but with snow coming down harder and harder, its anyone's guess. This post has one photo.

A Holiday Weekend in Windsor, Vermont

We spent this past weekend in Windsor, Vermont doing a number of fun, wintry things: dogsledding along the Connecticut River (lots of dogsledding photos!), visting the Billings Farm and paling around with farm animals, touring the Harpoon Brewery with its unlimited beer tastings and trying in vain to perfect our New England accents. This post has 29 photos (!) and one amazing video of dogsledding without snow.

Visit to Portugal: Two Days in Cascais
Cascais,

Travelogue
The fourth and final stop on our tour of Portugal was the tony seaside village of Cascais, about 25 miles west of Lisbon. Cascais is where the locals go to get away from the city to enjoy the beach, and is also a wealthy community of coastal homes, second houses and seaside escapes. Cascais is the Hamptons of Lisbon. In this post we flee hoards of Germans at the western-most point of Europe, visit the unusually tame Boca de Inferno, search for food in the village of Cascais and brave the wind-swept beaches of Guincho. This post has 18 photos, enjoy!

This post has 22 photos, enjoy!

Just returned from a terrific 8-day trip across Portugal, visiting Lisbon, the Douro Valley, Porto and the Cascais Coast. I managed to fill two, 32GB memory cards with over 1,200 photos. I'll be sorting through these over the next few days and will be posting a few summaries of our trip shortly. We're tired, jetlagged, and broke, but had an amazing time and can't recommend it enough. During our brief trip to Los Angeles last month, we made one last excursion to visit the Warner Brothers Studio lots in Burbank, California. Warner Brothers is the one of the biggest remaining studio lots still in use, and they make a pretty good mint giving tours to out-of-town movie and TV fans like ourselves. The VIP tour is $50 and lasts a few hours, but is well worth it if you're a fan of Hollywood TV and movie magic. This post has ten photos, and features a real-life TV star.
