Last month we were in Yosemite National Park
for our annual Yosemite getaway. This was my first trip with the new Nikon D800
, and despite having little experience with the camera I set out late at night to attempt to photograph the Milky Way over our campsite. I wish I had done my homework prior, because after fidgeting with the settings for an hour or so, I didn't really get what I was looking for.
In this photo, you can see the stars over head and the nearby tress illuminated by my headlamp as I looked up to adjust the camera. Not a great effort, but after doing much reading on the topic of celestial photography, I'm determined to return and try again.
