When I started my 2007 Epic Tour of National Parks, I had never heard of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. In fact, I had no plans to stop there until I saw it on the map between Crater Lake National Park and Yellowstone. I only stopped there for a few minutes, but the landscape was truly unique and breathtaking. The striated rock formations and their colors were simply amazing. Its unlikely you may find yourself in the area, but I highly recommend it.
