In September of 1995, with very little pomp or circumstance, I loaded up my Toyota pickup truck and moved from Kansas City (Overland Park) to San Jose, California. I initially signed up for a 2-year assignment to help start Arthur Andersen's San Jose office Computer Risk Management practice, but ending up sticking around for the next 15 and half years.
On Wednesday, April 20th, movers came and collected the last of my belongings to be shipped off to New York City. It was a harried and businesslike affair, capped by the unemotional dismantling of my long-beloved pool table (a buyer from Brentwood was moving to his garage as a surprise for his kids):
I rented the condo and we left for New York on Wednesday, April 27. The night before we had a happy hour at Waterbar to catch up with a few friends. I snapped the photo on top with my phone before leaving for the evening. Truly a great view of a great city.
We'll be back quite often as my San Francisco roots run pretty deep, especially after nearly 16 years. At the very least, I still have my house there, and we'll be back in July for the 12th annual Yosemite Trip. Further, there's no House of Prime Rib in New York, or frankly anything that comes close.
If you're going to be in New York, or even considering a trip, please do let us know. There's lots to do, see and eat here. Until then, see you around the Interwebs!
