Coaching, Preparation Overcome in Contest of Athleticism

Of course I'm talking about the triumph of the New York City Ballet's interpretation of Igor Stravensky's Duo Concertant as part of the visiting company's tribute to San Francisco's 75 anniversary. I say triumph because the work also performed by the National Ballet of Canada and Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, while novel and ingenious, lacked the skill and precision of the New York duo.

All of this was happening as KU routed North Carolina in the NCAA Final Four semi-finals in San Antonio. Turns out I bought tickets to see the New York City ballet during their visit to San Francisco months ago, as a surprise for Jessica's birthday. We had center box seats with a great view of the stage and the orchestra.

The performance was great, and luckily the game was not much of a nail biter so after checking the halftime score there wasn't much mystery as to the game's outcome. Anyway, we'll be watching the final on Monday for sure.
