Drunk and Disorderly

San Francisco

I've moved into this same home in SoMa about 5 years ago, and I've been really pleased with the progress the neighborhood has made. There's still a fair amount of petty crime (car break-ins, vandalism, drug use, vagrancy) but all of this has greatly declined from 5 years ago.

When I first moved in, our front door was broken at least 2-3 times per week. Someone would simply break that handle off the front door, enter the garage and help himself to whatever was there. My bike was stolen within 24 hours of moving in. That really sucked.

Since then we've taken measures to greatly improve the security of the building, installing an electronic magnetic lock on the front door that makes it virtually impossible to get the front door open short of pulling the door and its frame off the building, and also installing a state-of-the-art security system with cameras and digital recording.

Today we got an email from the property management company about vandalism reported on our building. Turns out the front door glass was kicked and cracked, but not broken. The glass is bullet-proof, not because we're worried about shootings but because we don't want someone kicking in the glass and looting the place. The door, and the glass despite being broken, held.

Luckily, our video surveillance system captured the video of a "person of interest" below, who was seem walking down the street in an apparently drunken state, allegedly kicking in car doors and breaking car windows. This evidence has been turned over to the police.

Probably a Patriots fan.
